Vector Lights is honouring Matariki with a dedicated light and sound show created by Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei.

The show tells the story of Matariki rising over Te Kahu Tōpuni o Tuperiri Central Auckland. It represents Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei as ahi kā and symbolises the lighting of the ceremonial fires of Matariki and over Tāmaki.

The dynamic light and sound show will play every night, 4-19 July from 6pm until midnight, every 15 minutes. A special showing will play from 4am to 7am on the Matariki public holiday (10 July).

There will be a break in the Matariki programme from 8pm to 10pm on Friday 10 July.

Some of your favourite viewing locations include Little Shoal Bay, Westhaven Marina and Maungawhau Mt Eden. You can also listen to the soundtrack live on the Vector website.

Be at Silo Park on Saturday 4 July, 4-8pm as the iconic Vector Lights on the Auckland Harbour Bridge illuminate for Matariki Festival 2026. Enjoy an evening of music, storytelling and family friendly activities, all set against the waterfront at Matariki Taimoana.

Vector Lights is part of a smart energy partnership between Vector, Auckland Council and NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi.
